Jimmy Carter
During the crisis, Jimmy Carter felt it was his responsibility to get the American hostages home safely. His response to the hostage was to set an embargo on Iranian oil. He felt like it was too risky to use military force, so he pressured Iran economically instead by freezing its U.S. assets. Americans rallied against Carter, clearly, he had made freeing the hostages his number one priority. Carter had assigned many other political leaders to help him in his efforts to create a peaceful solution and bring these American hostages home safely. (PBS)
